My Story
Hi, I’m Lewis Jackson — founder of Power Path Mentoring.
My career hasn’t followed a straight line, but every step has shaped the mentor I am today. From football pitches to classrooms, funeral homes to fitness studios, I’ve learned one constant: people can achieve extraordinary things with the right support.
From Football to Fitness
As a teenager, I represented Mansfield Town, Doncaster Rovers, and Chesterfield FC at academy level, before moving into full-time youth football. I didn’t make the cut into the professional game, but football taught me resilience, discipline, and ambition. I carried that passion into the non-league pyramid while working as a lifeguard and football coach.
Building Empathy and Perspective
One of my first full-time roles was supporting adults with autism as an activities coordinator and support worker. This was an eye-opener — I saw first-hand the challenges people face and the incredible progress they can make with the right encouragement. It gave me the empathy and patience that underpin everything I do today.
Fitness Coaching and Funeral Care
Personal training was my first true calling. Helping people transform their health and confidence felt natural. But I wanted to lead in a deeper way — which led me into funeral care.
Here, I guided grieving families through the most difficult moments of their lives and managed teams of up to 30 staff. It taught me leadership, sensitivity, and how to stay steady when others need strength.
Education: Where Mentoring Took Shape
From funeral care, I moved into education, initially through Northampton Town FC Community Trust as an Education and Sports Mentor. Soon after, I became a Student Support Officer, working with students across Years 7–11 and Sixth Form.
Within a year, I progressed to Senior Student Support Officer for Year 9, and shortly after, I was appointed the school’s first non-teaching Head of Year. My remit included behaviour, attendance, attainment, and safeguarding — essentially, the overall development of an entire year group.
These years in education showed me where my skills had the most impact: helping students who were struggling to see their own potential and guiding them back onto a positive path.
Fatherhood and a New Direction
When my daughter was born, I made the decision to step away from my role as Head of Year to be a full-time dad. During that time, I rebuilt my fitness business (Team LJF Coaching, bootcamps, and personal training) while shaping the idea that would become Power Path Mentoring.
Fatherhood sharpened my perspective. It gave me a deeper understanding of patience, balance, and the responsibility we have to guide young people in the right direction.
Why Power Path?
Power Path Mentoring isn’t just a service — it’s the culmination of everything I’ve learned:
-
The discipline of sport,
-
The empathy of care,
-
The leadership of funeral service,
-
The mentoring expertise of education,
-
And the perspective of fatherhood.
That’s why schools trust me to work with their students. I’m not another motivational speaker. I’m a mentor who’s lived it, led it, and continues to walk it every day.
